To join the Kayak Share Club, simply complete the application form. Once submitted, you will receive a confirmation message.
The next step will be to enrol you in our required orientation training, after which you’ll gain access to the group kayaks. Please note that you need to provide your own paddle and lifejacket. See the list of recommended equipment for further details.
Due to high current demand for orientation training, there may be a delay in booking you into an orientation training session.
While you wait, we encourage you to take advantage of Sydney Harbour Kayak’s Introduction to Kayaking lesson.
Step 1. Fill in the Application form
To join, please fill in the application form. Please note you must be able to swim at least 50 metres.
On the application form for becoming a member, you will need to READ and ACCEPT the Kayak Share Club Terms and Conditions, Waiver, and Guidelines.
You will then receive a brief confirmation message that your application has been received, ....if not, please repeat with your correct email address!
Step 2. KSC strongly recommends beginners attend a FREE "Introduction to Kayaking" lesson at Sydney Harbour Kayaks before joining KSC.
This will give you the opportunity to try paddling and decide if it’s for you, before purchasing a life jacket and paddle. This is a very good half day (3 hour) exercise.
There is no charge for the lesson, just a $60 fee to hire a kayak from SHK. More info at https://www.sydneyharbourkayaks.com.au/free-kayak-lessons
Step 3. Monitor your emails on the 20th of each month (except May, June, July, and August), and be ready to respond!
Applicants will receive an email on the 20th of each month (except in May, June, July, and August) with details of the following month's training sessions for new members.
Applicants who do not reply to the training date email are removed from all future mail-outs. We have a long waiting list, and this is the best way to manage the many wishing to join.
Step 4. Fees. BEFORE paying any fees, MAKE SURE you have received an email confirming your training session date.
The membership fees are required within 7 days of receiving the email to secure your spot:

Step 5 – Paddle Safety Training for New Members
Every new member needs to first complete a Paddle Safety Training Session. It covers paddle technique, safety on the harbour, weather monitoring, capsize and self-rescue, and assisting in the rescue. Training sessions are usually held 7.30-11 am, one Saturday per month. Date will depend on the instructor availability and weather.
Please note that you will need to bring your own paddle, lifejackets or approved personal floatation device and aquatic shoes or old runners. Please see the full list of recommended equipment for further details.
After the training session you will be added to the club's online kayak booking system to make your kayak bookings, and our KSC Social groups on WhatsApp to link up with fellow members and arrange kayak trips.
