PLEASE NOTE
AT THIS POINT (March 2024) THE KAYAK SHARE CLUB HAS REACHED CAPACITY.
THERE WILL BE NO NEW INTAKES IN THE IMMEDIATE FUTURE
WE WILL KEEP YOU UPDATED ON WHEN WE ARE ABLE TO ADD MEMBERS
THANK YOU
Step 1. Fill in the Application form
To join, please fill in the application form.
On the application form for becoming a member, you will need to READ and ACCEPT the Kayak Share Club Terms and Conditions, Waiver, and Guidelines.
You will then receive a brief confirmation message that your application has been received, ....if not, please repeat with your correct email address!
IMPORTANT: Kayak Share Club strongly recommends that all beginners attend a FREE "Introduction to Kayaking" lesson at Sydney Harbour Kayaks before joining KSC. This will give you the opportunity to try paddling and decide if it’s for you before outlaying on purchase of life jacket and paddle. There is no charge for the lesson, just a $55 fee to hire a kayak from SHK. This is a very good half day (3 hour) exercise, information can be found at https://www.sydneyharbourkayaks.com.au/free-kayak-lessons
Step 2. Monitor your emails on the 20th of each month (except May, June, July, and August), and be ready to respond! All applicants will receive an email on the 20th of each month (except in May, June, July, and August) of the following month's training sessions for new members.
Applicants who do not reply to the training date email are removed from all future mail-outs. This is our best way to manage the many wishing to join. We keep a waiting list
Step 3. WAIT to receive an email confirming your training session date, BEFORE paying any fees. The membership fees are required within seven days of receiving this email to secure your spot:
From 1/1/2024 Membership fees for new members are $50 joining fee plus $185pa for adults, ($102.50pa for youth) (this includes $100 for the Kayak Share Club annual fee and $85 for the Paddle Australia (PA) fee 12 months from the payment date). PA fee provides 24/7 paddle personal accident and public liability coverage.
ONLY AFTER receiving confirmation of the training date, go to https://paddle.org.auto sign up with Paddle Australia and then use the Club Finder to find and select Kayak Share Club. Select your membership type (Adult membership, NOT Volunteer) and then make your payment. You will then receive emailed payment confirmation from Paddle Australia (NSW).
Paddle Safety Training for New Members
To use a kayak every member joining needs to complete first a Paddle Safety Training Session. It covers paddle technique, safety on the harbour, weather monitoring, capsize and self-rescue, and assisting in the rescue. Training Sessions are usually held 7.30-11 am, one Saturday per month. Date will depend on the instructor’s availability and weather.
After the training session, you will be then added to the club's online kayak booking system to make your own kayak bookings and invited to Kayak Social, a WhatsApp group for members only. (Please make sure you have installed WhatsApp into your smartphone.)
